Satellite Navigation for Worldwide Use

What satellite navigation can I use worldwide?

There are many makes and models of satellite navigation on the market, but not all of them operate outside the country of purchase. If your traveling you could always buy a navigation system in the country you are visiting? Yes, but that's perhaps impractical. Here is our round up of systems you can use outside the UK followed by an easy to read chart to help you decide what is best for you.

Magellan Roadmate 800

As with most of the sat nav systems in the round up one of our favorite features is the built in mp3 player with a massive 20gb storage drive. Now when you travel all you need is a handy player-to-radio transmitter (which costs around £10) and you can listen to all your favorite music on holiday without having to drag your entire CD selection along!

Another key feature is the Smart Detour. Upon detecting a traffic jam, the Roadmate 800 can calculate another route quickly to help you get round the jams and keep on moving. Now you don't need to keep the radio of for traffic updates, a good time to use that mp3 function.

Fujitsu Siemens N100 Pocket Loox

Although this system doesn't include a touch screen it shouldn't be dismissed. As the lightest in our selection it uses a stylus as for controlling this system and is one for those who find touch screens awkward or troublesome.

This also has other PDA like strings to its bow and can be used also as an mp3 player as well as including some retro games that can provide a much needed break on long trip.

Navman N60i

In third place for storage with 4gb complimenting the mp3 player the Navman N60i does a few things that you won't find on any of the other devices on this page. Firstly it makes a great feature of parking and fuel locations, meaning if you need to park or refuel it only takes a couple of button presses and you can be directed to the closest to you in no time.

Also with its built in digital camera you can take pictures of locations you want to bookmark to use them as a visual aid when navigating!

Garmin StreetPilot c500

The lightest of all the sat nav systems here that offers maps for Europe, America and Canada the StreetPilot c500 also contains the standard mp3 player. A great model for those look for something fairly "no-nonsense" it does however require a memory card before you can use the mp3 player function.

TomTom Go 910

One of the most recognised brands for satellite navigation today, the TomTom Go 910 is a shining beacon as to why. With its massive 20Gb storage, mp3 player, maps covering Europe, North America and Canada and not forgetting the handy picture viewer it makes this model the most useful tool to any car based traveler. Now you can have your favorite music, photos and maps in one place. Shouldn't this be the way you always drive?

TomTom Go 710

The little brother of the Go 910 might not be as expanded but for European travel its still well worth every penny. It doesn't have the storage of the 910 but with expandable memory its just as flexible.
